RABBLE Theatre secure funding and announce dates for national tour

RABBLE Theatre are pleased to announce that they have been awarded £85,000 of investment from Arts Council England to produce a national tour of their celebrated new play, Glitch - The True Story of the Post Office Scandal.

The acclaimed play was created in Reading with sub-postmistresses affected by the tragic events, key members of the legal process involved in the story and the University of Reading, who commissioned the project. The inspirational true story is based on the experiences of Pam Stubbs who became a key witness against one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in British legal history. The show sold out when premiering in 2024 and the company are excited about taking it to a wider audience.

RABBLE tells local stories of national significance. To be able to share Pam’s inspirational story of perseverance and bravery to a national audience is brilliant and we’re grateful to ACE for enabling us to do so at this moment in time”. Toby Davies, Artistic Director

Hazel Edwards, South East Area Director, Arts Council England, said: "Our investment of £85,000 into RABBLE Theatre’s 'Glitch – The True Story of the Post Office Scandal’ will enable this pertinent production to tour nationally, reaching audiences far beyond its original home in Reading. Touring will bring high-quality, socially resonant theatre to new regions, boosting local venues and engaging diverse communities. This funding, made possible thanks to players of The National Lottery, affirms the power of the arts to educate, provoke and inspire change.

One of the figures instrumental in revealing the corruption and amplifying the victims’ voices is Investigative Journalist, Nick Wallace. Nick attended RABBLE’s Glitch in 2024 and was effusive about the production:

Go and see this piece of theatre. It has a visceral effect that is very, very powerful.Nick Wallis, Investigative Journalist

Tour dates have been released, spanning the majority of England, with the show being performed in towns and cities all across the country, from Harrogate to Plymouth, Liverpool to London and even into Wales, near the post office of Sir Alan Bates.

Many of the theatres are in locations where the story is deeply resonant, experienced by local people whose lives were violated by the largest miscarriage of justice in English legal history.

When you watch something on TV you can pause it and distance yourself. The mark of theatre is that we are in the room with you and I have found that profoundly moving with this extraordinary project - watching the unbelievable truth of Pam’s story and the cruelty of her pursuers. It is a responsibility and privilege to tell this story to people up and down the country” Toby Davies, Artistic Director of RABBLE Theatre
