Dear Lord Lloyd Webber,
As a professional courtesy, please find enclosed the script and CD for my satirical musical, Webber! – it’s a 55-min through-composed musical about your life. I’m very proud of it.
First of all: I am not soliciting for any kind of business deal, production package or management – I’m simply making you aware of the piece. I composed every note and wrote every word. I’ve cast myself in the role of Webber and I hope you’ll agree Laura Clare Reid as Thatcher is sublime in her innate hilariousness and incredible voice.
There is a more detailed reasoning for why I was compelled to write Webber! in the introduction of the book – but the truth is: I became fascinated with how your life and political actions are diametrically opposed to the teachings of the main characters of your foundational works Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. That, to me, is a compelling story I wanted to tell.
I genuinely hope this finds you in good health and humour. If you or your team would like tickets to our preview performances or Edinburgh Fringe run, let me know. Sadly, I cannot offer the same courtesy for our performances at Beautiful Days festival as our guest-list is non-existent. Sincerely and with love,
Grant Sharkey
A hilariously bawdy musical about the life and politics of Andrew Lloyd Webber. It seemed like the polite way to troll him.
After a smash hit launch at the Edinburgh Festival, Webber!, the hilarious musical from Grant Sharkey about the life and politics of Andrew Lloyd Webber is going on a quick autumn tour.
In our bawdy little show, we follow the story of young Webber - a boy born without the ability to have original ideas - as he strives to fulfil his ultimate dream of becoming 'filthy rich and f**king useless'. Guided by the Eternal Spirit of Universal Human Greed (who happens to look a lot like Margaret Thatcher) he creates some of the world's most mediocre art whilst pretending to be the best.
Will he succeed?
Will he ever become a Lord?
Will he vote in favour of cutting tax credits on the poorest in our society?
Find out whilst laughing, and crying, at WEBBER!
