Reside Dance presents: Moving Stories

Reside Dance C.I.C. and Reading Borough Council invite you to the Moving Stories performance on Thursday 26th August, 18:00 – 18:20 at Kensington Park, Reading. Suggested arrival time is 17:50.

Oxford Road is amongst the most densely populated and cosmopolitan neighbourhoods in the UK. It is home to families and individuals who can trace their ethnic roots to all corners of the globe. In July 2021, Oxford Road residents and community leaders created the banner, 'A World in One Place'.

Oxford Road’s tradition for accommodating diversity can be traced back to the 1950s although, there is evidence to trace it back much further. The 1950s was a time when Reading’s stable economy provided employment opportunities for Irish, Eastern European, and Caribbean men and women who found affordable homes in the area.

The Moving Stories performance is a culmination of the free, celebratory cultural dance programme offered to residents, workers, and visitors of Oxford Road. During 3rd – 19th August 2021, there were three workshop series available in Bhangra/Bollywood Dance, Samba Dance and Caribbean Dance. The free, multicultural performance combines each dance style to celebrate the history and heritage of Oxford Road. It will take the audience on a journey through the Oxford Road, exploring the buildings that are homes to people, businesses, entertainment, education, and religious groups as well as the stories that occur inside. It draws upon the participants’ lived experiences of the area.

If you would like to attend the free performance, you can register your place using the "register now" button on this page.

Although the performance is free, all audience members must register so we can keep an eye on audience numbers. A registration form must be completed by each individual who would like to attend if 16+ years. Under 16s must have their form completed by a parent or guardian. Carers or support workers are welcome to fill in the form on behalf of an individual.

The deadline for registrations is Wednesday 25th August, 6pm.

Although we are in Step 4, Reside Dance C.I.C. will continue to keep abreast of changes in Covid-19 guidelines and will work with participants and audience members to provide an environment that they are comfortable in regarding masks, PPE, and social distancing.
