The Sunday Alternative - Mental Health, Community and Psychedelics

The role of psychedelics in mental health and their wider societal effects

The next Assembly is about the role of psychedelics in mental health and their wider societal effects.

Until the 1970s psychedelic drugs were a valued tool used by clinical psychologists to treat many mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD and OCD. Did the “War On Drugs' 'remove the best effective treatment for mental illness? We are experiencing a renaissance in the use of psychedelic drugs as, once again, the medical world looks at their benefits, especially over conventional treatments, and the general well-being of those who use these non-addictive, non-toxic substances. There will be a Q&A.

Plus all the other magical elements of The Sunday Alternative at The Rising Sun Arts Centre. This is the best place to be on a Sunday morning. Lovey people, live music, interesting ideas, some silliness and cakes.

About The Sunday Alternative
The Sunday Alternative is a SECULAR congregation that celebrates life, meeting once a month in Reading. Members of the Assembly believe in Living Better, Helping Often and Wondering More, for no other reason than to make the most of the one life we know we have. In the company of a lovely diverse bunch of people, the morning is a lively combination of group singing, silly games, interesting words, and eating cake.

The Sunday Alternative welcomes all - of all ages and all backgrounds.

The Sunday Alternative is free to attend and runs entirely on donations.

The best way to meet new people is to come early and enjoy some tea, coffee, homemade cakes, and savouries (all vegan-friendly).

Doors open at 10:30 am for teas and chats. The Assembly begins at 11 am and ends at about 12:15 am. Then more coffee and cakes until 1 pm. After we find a pub or a space in the park if the weather is kind.
