Why I Love This Song is a monthly discussion meetup where we each explain why we love a particular song.
Each participant chooses 1 song and sends it secretly to the meetup host who then sends the complete playlist to all the attendees. See below for previous songs that we've already discussed. Find something new!
The group aims to learn more about music and each other. This is not a music critique group. It is a learning and appreciation group.
*What happens*
*Before the meeting*
Each participant sends a song of less than 10 minutes long to the host. Instrumental pieces are also great. Unless a participant already knows a song, each song must be listened to at least 3 times by each participant before the meeting.
*At the meetup*
For each song, we first try to guess who chose it. This is just for fun.
The chooser then explains why they picked their song. The reasons can be emotional - it connects them to a time, place or person - or it can be what the lyrics mean to them, it can be analyses of what the song does musically, or its history and why it is important societally.
Once everyone has explained their choice, the floor is open to ask questions and to share observations.
No one can criticize or mock another's song choice. If you don't like a song this is the perfect time to learn why others do and gain a new perspective on it.
