Down At The Abbey 2023

8 Sep 2023-9 Sep 2023

We are back!

Down at the Abbey Early Bird Tickets are now on sale here for Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September.

PERFORMING ON FRIDAY 8 SEPTEMBER:

Friday Headliners: The Comet Is Coming

The Comet Is Coming are an acclaimed London-based cosmic trio that incorporates elements of jazz, electronica, funk, and psychedelic rock, with a love of all things outer space, science fiction, and B-movies. The band are previous Mercury Prize nominees and The Guardian have described them as "true heirs" to cosmic jazz pioneers Sun Ra.

The band is led by saxophonist, Shabaka Hutchings who has established himself as a central figure in the London jazz scene and has previously performed in bands including Melt Yourself Down and Sons of Kemet; and now The Comet Is Coming with keyboardist Dan Leavers, and drummer Max Hallett.

The Comet Is Coming have garnered critical acclaim over their three albums (including Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam last year) and a reputation as a formidable live force! The trio have a huge 2023 ahead with performances including the world famous Coachella Festival in the Colorado Desert in April and Primavera Sound in Barcelona in June.

PERFORMING ON SATURDAY 9 SEPTEMBER:

Saturday Headliner: BC Camplight

BC Camplight returns to Down at the Abbey to headline our Saturday evening and will be performing material off his new album, The Last Rotation Of Earth.

The last album Shortly After Takeoff received the best reviews of his life and was called “A masterpiece” by The Guardian in their 5-star review.

Backed by his thrilling live band, BC has performed at many major festivals including All Points East, Glastonbury, BBC 6Music, and End of the Road, and plays his biggest headline shows to date, at London Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Manchester’s Albert Hall later this year.

Los Bitchos

The energetic, London-based pan-continental, mostly-instrumental four piece Los Bitchos were undoubtedly one of the breakthrough bands of 2022, and they ended the year the only way they know how by celebrating!

Having played their retro-futuristic blend of Peruvian chicha, Argentine cumbia, Turkish psych and surf guitars at over 100 shows across 20 countries since their debut album was released on City Slang in February of 2022, the band has released two new festive tracks, Los Chrismos and Tipp Tapp to mark the end of an incredible year.

Los Bitchos just played a run of select tour dates supporting Franz Ferdinand, along with numerous festival dates, and a coveted spot sharing the stage with Pavement plus supporting King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard this March.

+ more to be announced over our two days.
