A celebration of church bell ringing set in a beautiful and historic church, incorporating:
- An exhibition and sale of local arts and crafts
- Tours of the building and churchyard
St Michael’s is a beautiful and historic building, parts of which date back to the twelfth century. It was extensively remodelled in the mid-Victorian era by the church architect George Street, and amongst many other interesting features boasts a ring of 8 Bells, a fine Arts and Crafts stained glass window by William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones and the stunning Jacobean tomb of the merchant and royal jeweller Peter Vanlore.
As part of the Heritage Open Days programme, this stunning setting is opening its doors for a celebration of creativity, with an exhibition of pictures and craftworks produced by artists and designer-makers from Tilehurst and the surrounding area. There will also be self-guided tours of the church and an opportunity to explore the churchyard with its monuments to several notable Reading residents including the Blagrave family.
Refreshments will be available.
