Natural Loom Weaving Workshop

Join artist Carrie Grainger for a casual natural loom weaving workshop.

Sat 18 May, 11:00 - 13:00

Join contemporary artist Carrie Grainger for a natural loom weaving workshop where Carrie will firstly show you how to set up a small loom weave using hessian rope and will give you a few tips on how you can make your own loom bases at home without the cost of purchasing one.

Carrie will then go on to show you the basics of starting your own weave and how you can integrate natural materials such as twigs, feathers, lavender, moss, raffia and many other natural materials for a more rustic and medicinal feel. Once you have got the hang of things you are welcome and encouraged to be as creative and free as you would like to with your weave.

This workshop will have a casual and relaxed vibe and there will be no pressure to rush through or finish your weave by the end of the session. It will be something you can take away with you and finish in your own time if you would like to.

Towards the end of the session, Carrie will show you how to complete the finishing touches on a natural weave in order to display it and will give you some tips on how to strengthen and preserve your weaves for longevity.

Loom weaves, Hessian rope and a selection of yarns and natural materials will be available for the workshop. However you are also encouraged to bring any additional materials or natural items that you may want to use in your weave, whether it be an old piece of ribbon that you found in a drawer or some twigs, a feather or perhaps a piece of heather you may have collected on a morning walk.

We would also recommend bringing a plastic or paper bag to put your weave in at the end of the session. Cups of tea and coffee are also very welcome.

This workshop is aimed at 16+. 14/15 year olds are allowed to attend if accompanied by an adult of 18+
